I think these are great ideas! It's important to show the rest of the country that we support what we have here, and to illustrate why the induction ceremonies should ALWAYS be held in Cleveland.

Wouldn't this also be a great time to show off the other fantastic things we have here? It would be awesome to somehow have special shows or celebrations around that time at the Museum of Art, Severance Hall, etc.

Thanks for the comment Jay. I love the thought of the "Sun Dance of Rock." In what ways could we create the avenues for this to be a grass-roots driven effort vs. being run by one of the local economic development groups? Anyone have any thoughts?

This is a great idea and a way to build some momentum on "alternative/micro conventions" that do not necessarily need a convention center. It could be a "Sun Dance of Rock" where new talent could be found on a recurring basis. There is a lot that could be done to tie business and entertainment together here.

For starters I would put together an adhoc group to do some preliminary brainstorming and recruit "Rock Star" bloggers to Cleveland to help push the event (JoshSpear.com, CoolHunting.com, etc.). Have the new Convention Bureau flip the bill for the bloggers to come before the event. I know they would and this would help expose Cleveland on the web in an inexpensive, expansive and viral way.

I work for COSE and The Greater Cleveland Partnership. I love working for them because of the extra things they help us accomplish and provide to us. They had CPR training in the office last week and this week for those that wanted to become certified.

They provide us w/access to the Executive Education Series w/CASE Western Reserve University and encourage continued learning thru these programs or other seminars and conferences. They want us to do more than our normal day to day tasks. Benefits are great too.

Good post Bob! I think there's tons of diamonds in the rough here in Greater Cleveland that don't get enough exposure for what they're doing. How about some of these:
Hyland Software
Sherwin Williams
All of the Cavs sister organizations
Progressive
JakPrints
Saeco
VSM Sewing
and a ton of others. Give me some time and I'll return with more of a list for you.

I work at Skylight Financial Group located in Tower City and there are so many cool things about this company, I don't don't know where to begin! We are a direct affiliate of MassMutual who happens to be on the Fortune 100 Company List. (That's better than Coca-Cola FYI) The financial advisors are cool along with our support staff who do so much to help the advisors succeed. We have training every week to make our advisors the best in the business...that's pretty cool, too. Oh yeah, and the incentives for succeeding are phenomenal. This year the top producers are going on a Mediterranean cruise. Now that's too cool for school.

Employers look for candidates that can come in, make a difference and we hope they stay... Employers can't afford to rehire for a position again and again. I guess that's why creating an engaging, supportive and fun environment is so important for corporations now... Corporations need to have a strategy around attracting talent and retaining talent.

Candis,

Thanks for the post. I agree that many businesses have a difficult time "wooing" the 20something crowd. IdentiFYI intends on making this process MUCH easier for our clients as we augment existing practices or completely take over the process.

We are seeing a shift in local companies realizing that they need to invest in entry-level talent. Some of this is coming from internal audits that have found major succession plan issues (relating to entire divisions run by middle and senior management types) and others just see the need to continually invest in new talent. thunder::tech is an example of this trend as they grow their business. I call this the Mark Shapiro model for success.
